Sort and prepare the cherries

It does not matter whether you want to stone sour cherries or sweet cherries. Both types have to be selected beforehand, because the sensitive cherries quickly show rotten spots. Especially if they are stored warm over a longer period of time.

  • Only pit perfect cherry fruits
  • wash fruits thoroughly beforehand
  • then let it dry off
  • with some methods remove the stems as well

Warning: the red juice of many types of cherry leaves stubborn stains. Therefore, an apron and food gloves are essential when removing the cores.

Core the cherries with a sharp knife

The pulp of a few cherries, for example for a dessert, can also be carefully removed from the core with a sharp knife. However, if the fruits are desired as a whole or a large amount of them has to be processed, this knife method quickly reaches the limits of feasibility. Too tedious, too time-consuming and also a little dangerous. The other methods are just a lot more effective.

Tips

With cherries from your own garden, cutting open with a sharp knife is definitely a good idea Convincing advantage: If the inside of the church can be seen, any worm infestation can be better recognized will.

Remove the cherry stones with chopsticks

This method involves pitting one cherry at a time, so allow plenty of time.
The following utensils are required:

  • a large bowl
  • an empty, clean glass bottle with a small opening
  • a stick with a blunt end
  • Place the bottle on a non-slip surface.
  • Put a cherry on the neck of the bottle, the stem should be in the bottle. However, if the whole cherry slips through, the bottle neck is too wide for this project and the bottle must be replaced with another.
  • Press the stick into the cherry from above. You will perceive the core as a resistance.
  • Press the chopstick with more force until the
  • Core pierced the lower side of the church and falls into the bottle.

  1. Pull the stick out of the cherry and place the pitted fruit in the prepared bowl.
  2. Stone all the cherries one after the other.

If the bottle is filled to the brim with seeds in between, you can simply shake them out in the trash.

Remove the seeds with a bobby pin

Of course, it has to be a new, clean hairpin that gets to work here. But it also works with a metal paper clip, which is bent apart for this purpose. Since it is difficult to hold a "bare" hairpin in your hand when doing this work, you will need a cork as a handle. Open the bobby pin in a U-shape and insert the two ends deep enough into the cork that the needle is firmly in place.

  • use it to pierce the outer skin of the cherry
  • Push the clamp under the cherry pit
  • Lift the stone out of the fruit

The correct hairpin guidance must certainly still be practiced on the first fruits, but then the pitting works smoothly. With this method, even less of the valuable cherry juice is splashed than is the case with the bottle neck method described above.

Core the cherries in the Thermomix

If you have a Thermomix in your kitchen, this machine could save you a lot of time. Cherries can be pitted in seconds. You won't find a whole cherries afterwards, but the mashed fruit pulp is by no means bothersome when boiling jam or as a topping for a cake. This method is also ideal for making juice. You only have to forego the speed of this device if you want to use cherries for decoration purposes.

  • Chop the cherries in the Thermomix for about 3 minutes
  • then put the mixture in a coarse sieve
  • so separate the pulp from the seeds

Tips

Do not set the highest possible level so that the kernels are not also crushed. It is better to test yourself step by step until you have found the optimal setting for now and in the future.

Core with a stoner

With a cherry pitter, it should be possible to pitted more than 10 kg of cherries per hour. With some models from grandma’s times, it is rather unlikely that the challenged sore muscles will not be felt the next day. Good stoners are available on the market for as little as EUR 15. How such a device works does not need to be mentioned here in great detail. The enclosed descriptions explain the handling in detail.

  • different models are offered
  • some can stone several cherries at the same time
  • some devices even come with a splash guard
  • but are more difficult to clean

If you own a large cherry tree of your own, you could expect a plentiful harvest year after year. The purchase of a stoner is a worthwhile investment in the long run.

Tips

Red-discolored hands will be clean again if they are rubbed vigorously with lemon juice and then washed with water.
