The advantage of prizing peppers is: Instead of many shoots, the plant now takes care of them optimal care of the main shoot. By removing the stinging shoots, all fruits are attached to the main shoot. The fruits on this shoot develop well and promise significantly more fruits.

Garden experts argue about whether this actually brings significantly better harvest results. The fact is: skimming doesn't do any harm. If you want to know exactly, it is best to do the practical test. A pepper plant is maxed out and another of the same variety is not. Then you will be smarter by next year at the latest.

The best time to prune and care for peppers

The best time to remove the shoots is in the morning because this is when the cuts dry up the fastest. Because the larger the stinging shoots, the bigger wounds arise when breaking out on the plant.

Prefer paprika a location with slightly acidic, sandy, loose soil. The space requirement and ideal planting distance depends on the type of pepper.

Skimming peppers also has disadvantages

By pricking the peppers, they are forced to grow unnaturally. By nature the plant has the tendency to grow in width. Skimming prevents development in this direction. This contradicts the basic ecological idea.

At the same time it becomes clear that the pepper plant is not able to develop sufficiently strong shoots for height growth. The shoots are designed for width growth and too weak for growth upwards. In order to be able to hold the main shoot with the large fruits, the pepper plant needs a bamboo stick or other support.

Tips & Tricks
