The following should be available as a tool: a spade, one Digging fork, one saw as well as a Hoopoe (Hoe). In particular, the hoopoe makes the work noticeably easier. As a symbiosis between ax and hoe, the tool takes on the strongest roots.

How to remove the corkscrew willow stump and stem

It is an incontrovertible fact that every willow sprouts again as long as its roots are still in the ground. The radical cutback therefore only represents the overture to the core work. To do away with corkscrew willow for good:

  • Use the spade to expose the root ball as much as possible
  • Then remove the soil from the roots with the beak (narrow side) of the hoe
  • Cut a root strand with the sharpened ax

With the next blow, you turn the hoopoe over in seconds so that you can lift the rhizome out of the ground with your beak without heavy soil on it. You dig out the root stump itself completely. If there is enough space, put a chain around the stump and pull the root ball out of the ground with a towing vehicle.

Hammer off small roots

So that you only have to take care of the thickest root strands with an ax and hoe, first tap the root stock with a hammer. The smaller roots loosen by themselves and are only dug up.

Tips

The removal of a corkscrew willow must be completed by early March. The Federal Nature Act provides for bushes, hedges and trees from 1. March to 30th September a grandfathering. The purpose of this regulation is to protect breeding grounds within all kinds of trees. During this time, only maintenance cuts of a maximum of one third are allowed.
