Store arugula in the refrigerator
Three to four days, arugula cannot be stored longer. The leaves evaporate a lot of moisture, causing them to become limp and wither quickly. Also note that the vitamin content in sliced rocket drops very quickly, which is why it should be consumed fresh as possible. To create optimal storage conditions for the lettuce plant, proceed as follows:
- Remove the rocket from its packaging, if you bought it.
- Remove dead and rotten leaves.
- Wash the lettuce thoroughly with cold water.
- Drain the arugula thoroughly. Do not use a salad spinner for this, as the forces acting in it destroy the leaf structures and the leaves spoil more quickly.
- Wrap the rocket loosely in a slightly damp cloth, put it in a sealable container and this in turn in the vegetable compartment of your refrigerator.

The fresh alternative: grow arugula on the windowsill
Who always wants fresh rocket available, even outside the outdoor season, and not If you want to walk to the supermarket all the time, the lettuce plant can easily be placed on the windowsill plant. So you can always cut the required amount of rocket and benefit from the full vitamin content of the fresh leaves.
- Fill pots or boxes with soil that you have mixed up with a little sand.
- Make a seed trough no more than an inch deep and do not scatter the seeds too closely.
- Push some soil over the seeds and water them vigorously.
- Put the pots on a sunny windowsill.
- The seeds will sprout after one to two weeks with good watering. The plants are ready for their first cut after less than a month and can be harvested several times.
If you plant several boxes continuously, you can harvest fresh rocket all year round. It is important to water the plants carefully to avoid an accumulation of nitrate in the leaves. Rocket very rarely needs fertilization.
