The former can easily be cut off with a knife and multiplied by following the instructions below. To do this, you should cut off a small part of the root.
In order to obtain separately growing cuttings, it is necessary to dig up the mother plant in a radius of 3 cm. The cuttings have grown together with the original plant underground. Also cut off part of the root here.
Note: A clean cut is essential so that the mother plant recovers well from division and the young shoots grow well. Only use tools that you have previously disinfected. It should also be a sharp knife. Saws Not at the root, so that it will fray and certainly not tear off the root by force.
Instructions for propagation
Once you have internalized the process of propagation, it is child's play to expand your population of UFO plants. You can take offshoots all year round. Here's how to grow new plants:
- take any number of cuttings from the mother plant
- in prepared Growing pots(€ 16.68 at Amazon *) plants
- alternatively, place in a glass of water until visible roots have formed
Note: The roots of the pilea are very delicate. If you grow the young UFO plants in a water glass first, you risk damaging them when you plant them. It is therefore more advisable to put the cuttings in the ground immediately. However, they then grow more slowly.
Demands on the nursery pot
The ufo plant needs a lot of nutrients for healthy growth. Conventional Potting soil from the supermarket often does not meet this requirement. Therefore, it is better to spend a little more money on high-quality substrate. You also need Growing pots with a diameter of at least 9 cm, so that the young shoots have enough space to develop a root.
The removed offshoots feel comfortable on the windowsill.
