The exotic one Persimmon tree is on off Asia native ebony plant. It is a large tree with elongated leaves and yellow and white flowers. Its apple-sized fruits are mostly orange in color and taste great in the mature condition very sweet and juicy. The immature persimmons leave a furry feeling on the tongue.

In the German supermarkets all year round different breeds offered:

  • Persimmon (large, round, sweet, very soft flesh),
  • Persimmon (smaller and more intensely colored than persimmon, firm flesh),
  • Sharon (flat, tomato-like shape).

The fruits are harvested unripe and are good storable. Sharon fruits and persimmons can also be consumed when they are unripe, as they contain practically no tannins.

Hibernate persimmon trees frost-free

Depending on variety the persimmon trees show different frost resistance. Plants suitable for outdoor cultivation can cope with the occasional night frost, but need winter protection in particularly cold winters. The ones growing in the bucket Persimmon plants are - after they have lost their leaves and the fruits have been harvested - wintered frost-free and dark. During the hibernation there is no fertilization and only very sparingly watered.

the easy-care persimmon plant thrives best on neutral and loamy soil. It can be used as a half and as a High trunk as well as being educated on the trellis. The fruits are ripe between October and November.
