Greening is normal for many Japanese maples
First of all: with many Varieties of the red Japanese maple it is perfectly normal for the tree to only show red foliage when it sprouts and in autumn. In summer the leaves are naturally green. These types include a. popular variants like 'Kotohime' or 'Deshojo'. Only a few red Japanese maples show an intense red color throughout the entire growth period. The Japanese maples that tend not to turn green include u. a. 'Atropurpureum', 'Fireglow', 'Bloodgood' and various Dissectum varieties (including the popular 'Garnet').

There are many possible causes for greening
On the other hand, greening can of course also have various causes, mostly in a little bit suitable location to be found in too much or too little solar radiation and / or incorrect fertilization are. These lead to premature greening of the Japanese red maple as well as to the lack of autumn color in the Canadian red maple.
A lack of or inadequate solar radiation is usually responsible for at least weak or even non-existent autumn colors. Basically, the following rule applies to maples: the more the sun shines from the sky, the more intense the color of the leaves. However, this is by no means a general rule, because some types of maple prefers a semi-shady location and reacts to direct sunlight with one Turn green.
Incorrect pH in the soil
Another reason for the green leaves is to be found in the wrong pH value. Maples prefer a slightly acidic to neutral subsoil and turn green as soon as it becomes alkaline. In such a case, it helps to acidic the soil with Rhododendron soil improve.
Highly nitrogenous fertilization
Last but not least, one leads too intensive fertilization - especially with nitrogen - to fade the foliage. Maples, regardless of their type and variety, should only be supplied very moderately and preferably with organic fertilizers.
Tips
Unfortunately, greening can also occur naturally in older specimens - younger, red-leaved maples are often more intense in color and sometimes lose them with the Years.
