Choosing a date and preparation - tips & tricks for success
A proven rule of thumb states that a maple can cope with a change to a new location within the first 5 years. The best time for the measure is during the deciduous period between October and February. The preparatory work will start in the summer. How to arm your maple for stress:
- 4 to 6 months before transplanting, cut off the root disc all around in the radius of the crown
- Extend the cut area to a 10 to 20 cm wide trench
- Fill the furrow with Compost soil and water regularly

Thanks to this approach, you motivate the maple tree to increase the growth of fine roots, which later force the rapid rooting in the new location.
Instructions for transplanting - this is how it works
On the chosen date, first cut the crown back by a third. In this way you compensate for the lost root volume. Then dig out the root ball - starting from the compost ditch. How to proceed:

- On the new Location dig the pit so deep that the previous planting depth is maintained
- Insert the maple tree in the middle and fill the cavities with compost
- Trample the earth firmly and water it abundantly
- Water regularly in the following weeks
For improved stability up to the point of rooting, we suggest the following measure: Drive 3 wooden stakes around the maple about 50 cm deep around the maple at a distance of 30 cm. You connect the supports and trunk with coconut ropes.
Tips
Autumn is not the best time to transplant the woody wood for frost-sensitive maples. The Asian shrubs and small trees can no longer take root in the ground in time before winter and are through Frost damage threatened. In this exceptional case, early spring is the better choice of date.
