Quarter early

Your feel-good area

Frost-free alone is not enough to bring the spice bark healthy and vital through the winter. The location presented to her should have the following characteristics:

  • Temperature values between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius
  • never below 2 degrees Celsius
  • without strong temperature fluctuations during the day

The spice bark can overwinter warmer, but that carries risks. Warm temperatures favor lice, which can considerably weaken or even kill the plant.

Incidence of light

A bright room is recommended. However, the spice rind is tolerant and patiently persists even in dark places. Then the temperature should also be in the lower range. Can the foliage that then becomes ever lighter be seen as a disadvantage? Rather no.

We will hardly visit the cool winter quarters to admire the spice bark. With the withered flowers, their attractiveness has already been lost. The plant even benefits from the fact that it will soon be completely without leaves in the dark quarter. This increases your chance of avoiding aphids.

Tips

Collect fallen leaves promptly so that the pot cannot rot.

Cut back as needed

The winter quarters do not have to enter the spice bark with a new cut. However, if it is necessary for reasons of space, you can safely grab the scissors and use them to fit cut. Otherwise, do not shorten the crop by about a third until spring.

care

Out of sight, out of mind? Please do not! Even in winter, the spice rind must not be forgotten. Even if its growth is dormant for the time being, it still needs water to compensate for the loss through evaporation. Water every two weeks with small amounts. If you stand there with bare branches, even less water is needed.

You can leave the fertilizer pack in the cupboard during the winter.

Later move out

After the ice holy there is no longer any risk of frostbite. If the weather cooperates, the spice rind can go outside earlier. However, if there is an unexpected threat of late frost, it will have to retreat again.
