The lush white umbels show up between May and June. In autumn, the foliage of this hornbeam species turns bright red, which creates a nice contrast to the black-blue, small stone fruits. The 'Midwinter Fire' variety shows a particularly interesting play of colors in autumn.

White dogwood (Cornus alba)
Between May and July the white one shows Dogwood - sometimes referred to as the Tatar dogwood - its pretty, creamy white flowers. Depending on the variety, the fruits can be white to bluish in color. The broad, upright shrub turns its otherwise green foliage yellow to red in autumn.

Japanese flower dogwood is cultivated mainly for its distinctive floral decorations. The actual flowers are quite inconspicuous, but are surrounded by four large, white bracts and are therefore very noticeable. The strawberry-like fruits are pink in color.
Cornelian cherry (Cornus officinalis)
The bright yellow flower of the Japanese Cornelian cherry shows up very early in the year. The conspicuous flower umbels already appear in March / April, whereby the strong autumn color of the rather slender and narrow tree is a real eye-catcher.
