The variety of different types of cucumber is enormous. The elongated vegetable differs in color, shape and size and weight. In terms of color, there are not only green varieties, but also white, yellow and brown-skinned representatives. The shapes range from cylindrical and spherical to serpentine. The weight differences start with the small, crunchy mini cucumbers (under 70 g), followed by the popular pickled and pickled cucumbers (80-150 g), the typical fresh cucumber (200-400 g), followed by the classic peeled cucumber, which in turn can weigh up to 4 kg can.

Salad cucumbers / snake cucumbers

  • Adrian (F1): often found in commercial cultivation; high disease resistance; fruits about 15 cm long; excellent taste.
  • Bella (F1): Variety without bitter substances and good yields; well suited for growing in the greenhouse.
  • Burpless Tasty Green (F1): compact, new variety with 25-30 cm long fruits; to be grown outdoors and in a flower pot on the balcony; good taste.
  • Carosello Tondo di Manduria: well-tried, Italian variety with round to oval cucumbers; robust and very overgrown; excellent aroma.
  • Chinese slang: Outdoor cultivation is recommended; tiny core and lots of pulp.
  • Delicacy: well-tried variety (10-15 cm); Suitable for pickling and consumption fresh.
  • Dominica (F1): new cucumber variety with all-female flowers; high yields and good quality fruits; the cucumbers do not develop any bitter substances; good resistance to powdery mildew.
  • Eiffel (F1): hardy variety with 30-35cm long fruits; ideal for growing in a greenhouse; good taste.
  • Fate: well-tried cucumber variety with lush fruits (40-50 cm long; 8-12 cm thick); it is better to peel the harvest before consumption, as the peel is quite tough.

  • Flamingo (F1): new variety; resistant to numerous diseases; female flowers bring out cucumbers 25-30 cm in length; excellent taste.
  • Futura (F1): only female flowers; new variety with very high yields; without bitter substances, fine taste; reasonably robust against diseases.
  • Iznik (F1): Variety with small fruits (8-12 cm); extremely compact growing; recommended for sowing in pots (cultivation on balcony or terrace possible); only female flowers with later tasty cucumbers.
  • Johanna: well-tried cucumber with very thick meat; becomes up to 35 cm long; outstanding in taste and very productive.
  • Konsa (F1): new variety for outdoor cultivation; no bitter substances; high yields.
  • Lothar (F1): modern breeding with good resistance to powdery mildew and downy mildew; very compact in growth and good for growing in a flower pot on the balcony; high yields; about 20 cm long cucumbers with an aromatic taste.
  • Midios (F1): new type of cucumber with medium-sized fruits; high yield.
  • Moneta: robust variety for outdoor sowing; cucumbers up to 30 cm in size.
  • Paska (F1): new variety with 20-25 cm long cucumbers; makes female flowers only; high yields and very robust against various diseases.
  • Picolino (F1): small cucumber fruits (8-12 cm); excellent taste (free from bitter substances); can be grown in the greenhouse and outdoors.
  • Sakamari (F1): fast growing variety with an aromatic taste.
  • Saladin (F1): new variety with large cucumbers; resistant to bacterial leaf burn and cucumber dross.
  • Silor (F1): very robust with medium-sized cucumber (about 15-18 cm); good, aromatic taste.
  • Lemon cucumber lemon: well-tried cucumber variety with yellow cucumber fruits; spherical shape; delicious taste.

Pickled cucumbers or pickled cucumbers

  • Bidretta (F1): robust growth with high yields for outdoor cultivation; resistant to cucumber scabies.
  • Carine (F1): new variety with high yields and good resistance to powdery mildew; precocious fruits; extremely aromatic aroma.
