Welschisner is a very old (17th Century), apple variety from Upper Austria with medium-sized to large fruits. As a classic winter apple, the fruits ripen towards the middle to the end of October and are not ready for consumption until January. The variety is known for its good, low-acid taste and rich yield.

- Medium to large fruits with green skin and red cheeks
- Good suitability as dried apples, as the juice content is quite low
- Vulnerable to scabs and cancer
