A seasonal calendar gives you a good overview of which vegetables or fruits are growing and when. Everything about the season outdoors and in the greenhouse can be found here.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are not only delicious, but also extremely healthy. At the same time, you protect the environment with seasonal purchases or your own cultivation of vegetables, because long transport routes from harvest to There are no more sales in the supermarket - so it's no wonder that more and more people prefer to buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the current season want. But it is not always clear what is ready to be harvested at what time: especially when it comes to winter vegetables, many are not sure when to harvest. This can be remedied by a so-called seasonal calendar, in which you can see at a glance which types of fruit and vegetables are currently in season. In our seasonal calendar, we show you which varieties are in season when outdoors or in the greenhouse.

You can not only taste fresh fruit and vegetables in summer - different sorts are in season throughout the year. In our seasonal calendar you can find out which fruits and vegetables are growing in Germany.

Seasonal calendar January

Even if January with snow and cold does not necessarily speak for fresh vegetables from the garden, numerous types of vegetables are in season this month. Cabbage vegetables like savoy (Brassica oleracea var. sabauda), Kale (Brassica oleracea var. sabellica) or Brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera) not only defy the icy temperatures on the field, but are also ideal as a hearty meal in bad weather. Likewise can Parsnips (Pastinaca sativa), leek (Allium ampeloprasum) and turnips (Brassica napobrassica) can still be harvested in January, as well as fresh mushrooms (Agaricus). Even salads are still in season in January: chicory (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) and Lamb's lettuce (Valerianella locusta) grow even in winter and provide variety on the table. If you don't want to leave your greenhouse unplanted in winter, you should do it again in mid-October spinach (Spinacia oleracea) sow or celery (Apium graveolens var. rapaceum) - you can then harvest this in January without any problems.

Seasonal calendar February

February is also not known for its abundant harvests - nevertheless there are numerous types of vegetables that can be freshly harvested at this time. As in January, cabbage vegetables predominate, but parsnips and leeks also remain available. Chicory and lamb's lettuce also keep the table fresh.

Seasonal calendar March

In March the spinach can finally be taken out of the greenhouse: In the middle to the end of March, the delicious vegetables can finally be harvested from the field. Mushrooms, parsnips, leeks and chicory are also still in season. The crisp one radish (Raphanus sativus var. sativus) it's still too cold outside, but the delicious roots can already be grown and harvested in the greenhouse.

Seasonal calendar April

In April we can taste something sweet from the garden for the first time: the rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum) is finally ripe and delights us with its sweet and sour taste. You can also harvest plenty of spinach in the vegetable patch. Anyone who was already busy in the greenhouse in February can now look forward to delicious vegetables: Kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) and Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris) are ripe for harvest here.

Seasonal calendar May

In May it suddenly becomes full in the bed: next to asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) and mushrooms, kohlrabi, radishes and Swiss chard can also be harvested straight from the garden. You don't have to do without salad either: the Lollo Rosso (Lactuca sativa var. crispa) makes it straight from the garden to your plate in May. Dandelion (Taraxacum) is still considered by many as weed, is actually a wonderful addition to fresh salads and can be found in abundance in May. And also with the tasty ones tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) and Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus) you can access: The first early varieties can be harvested in the greenhouse from the end of May.

Seasonal calendar June

The vegetable season really starts in July: Different types of cabbage, Broad beans (Vicia faba), peas (Pisum sativum) and radish (Raphanus) thrive splendidly and can finally be harvested. But also garden classics like potato (Solanum tuberosum), Carrots (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) and zucchini (Cucurbita pepo var. giromontiina) are finally suitable for consumption. Oak leaf (Lactuca sativa var. Crispa) and iceberg lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. capitata) put salad lovers in a good mood. The provides additional enjoyment paprika (Capsicum), whose fruits are also finally ripe in the greenhouse. Those with a sweet tooth are also catered for in June: in addition to the delicious ones Strawberries (Fragaria) are also the first blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) and sour cherries (Prunus cerasus) ripe. The season ends in June for rhubarb and asparagus only - from St. John's day on December 24th. In June, both plants are traditionally no longer harvested.

Seasonal calendar July

What started well in June will continue just as well in July: the runner beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and Onions (Allium cepa) are ripe and too Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis) and Red cabbage (Brassica oleracea convar. capitata var. rubra) can move from the garden to the kitchen. If you don't keep your cucumbers in the greenhouse, but in the bed, there are two reasons to be happy: both salad and pickled cucumbers can now be harvested. If you still haven't had enough of salad, you will be happy about in July Radicchio (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) - but fruit lovers in particular get their money's worth: Raspberries (Rubus idaeus), Sweet cherries (Prunus avium), Apricots (Prunus armeniaca) and Mirabelle plums (Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca) ensure pleasant sweetness while Currants (Ribes) and Gooseberries (Ribes uva-crispa) taste wonderfully sour.

Seasonal calendar August

Nobody has to sit in the greenhouse in August: outdoor peppers and tomato plants are also ready for harvest. You can do the same now Celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce) and snack on parsnips fresh from the bed. August also offers space for exotic and almost forgotten vegetables - fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) and sweet corn (Zea mays convar. saccharata) are now thriving. Next to Blackberries (Rubus), Cranberries (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) and Watermelons (Citrullus lanatus) the fruit trees become active again and produce rich harvests. So we're allowed to talk about delicious Apples (Malus), Pears (Pyrus), Peaches (Prunus persica) and Plums (Prunus domestica) be happy.

Seasonal calendar September

In keeping with the cooling temperatures, we can look forward to the number one autumn vegetable in September: Finally, decorate again orange pumpkins (Cucurbita) our beds. But also that spicy horseradish (Armoracia rusticana), the delicious turnips and the healthy ones Beetroot (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris) should not be missing in autumn. The spinach celebrates a return to the bed and the celery tuber can also be harvested again. Seasonal calendar October

Now that the temperatures are falling again, the first plants are getting too cold again - in October cucumbers only bear their fruit in the greenhouse. On the other hand, parsnips and parsnips come well with the low temperatures Salsify (Scorzonera) rightly. The Brussels sprouts do not mind the low temperatures either, which, like the chicory, can be harvested again. Walnuts provide the right autumn mood (Juglans regia), Hazelnuts (Corylus avellana) and chestnuts (Castanea sativa): The delicious sweets can now be found in abundance in the right places.

Seasonal calendar November

The bed is slowly becoming emptier again: In November, many types of vegetables disappear due to the low temperatures. Kale and savoy cabbage are just right about these conditions, however, because they cannot tolerate the hot summer sun. Spinach and kohlrabi, on the other hand, can only be harvested if they grow safely in the greenhouse. It is also getting bare in the salad bed: only chicory and lamb's lettuce are available to pick. Things are looking very bad with the types of fruit - only a few types of pear still bear their sweet fruit in November.

In time for Christmas, the vegetable patch doesn't give us a lot of work - only a few types of cabbage such as kale and savoy cabbage as well as parsnips and turnips can still be harvested. Chicory and lamb's lettuce also defy the low temperatures in the greenhouse. Well protected in the greenhouse, you can also harvest spinach and celery bulbs.
