Potato salad is really one of the classics at the Oktoberfest and with good reason: The potatoes keep you full for a long time and form an ideal basis for drinking pleasure. In addition, they are a real supplier of energy, which also lets you dance on the tables for a long time (no, that is forbidden), i.e. on the benches.

For the classic, simply boil waxy potatoes, then remove the skin and cut into slices. You can cook it with either vegetable broth, vinegar and oil or with mayonnaise, as you like. Onions, radishes and fresh chives are components that are traditionally used in salads (preferably from their own cultivation).

Another integral part of many menus of the Oktoberfest hosts: the snack plate. A wide variety of versions are of course also possible here. A good, darker farmer's bread, fresh herb butter with chives, radishes, cheese and sausage can be selected and served according to taste. This also provides energy for rocking and rocking. The bread can of course also be replaced by a pretzel.

sauerkraut

Internationally probably the food most associated with Germany: sauerkraut. Of course, that shouldn't be missing with the hearty meal at the Oktoberfest either. But the healthy herb is also easy to prepare yourself at home and the white cabbage from your own garden can also be used. Another advantage is the long shelf life. The ingredients for delicious sauerkraut are also simple: white cabbage, salt and spices such as juniper berries, caraway seeds or bay leaves.

coleslaw

If you prefer a crunchier consistency, the coleslaw is the right choice. Here, too, white cabbage is used again, which is then dressed according to taste. Onions, vinegar, oil, salt, pepper, caraway seeds and a pinch of sugar are the usual ingredients. For a more unusual variation, try a coleslaw on red cabbage!
