If you Roses (pink) are too boring in the form of a bush or trellis, we have just the thing for you here. Abundantly blooming standard roses are a special eye-catcher and can also be found in a small garden. Colloquially, the rose tree is also often used. By nature, however, roses usually do not form stems. In order for a bed, shrub or climbing rose to become a standard rose, a suitable variety must first be selected and grafted on a specially grown wild rose shoot. A regular cut ensures that the shape of the crown is retained and that the rose produces many flowers throughout the summer.

We explain below what distinguishes tree roses and what needs to be considered when caring for them. We'll also introduce you to some of the most popular tree rose varieties.

Tree roses: characteristics and growth habit

Strictly speaking, a stem rose always consists of at least two varieties. In most cases, the rootstock is a robust wild rose variety. Then, for example, a noble or bush rose variety is refined, which forms numerous beautiful flowers. However, the height of the stem rose does not depend on the hybrid tea variety, but rather depends on the height of the grafting on the rootstock. In many tree and rose schools, therefore, tree roses with the same variety name are made in different sizes for example as a dwarf trunk (up to 50 centimeters), half trunk (up to 70 centimeters) or high trunk (90 centimeters) offered. With so-called cascade trunk roses (weeping trunk), climbing or rambler roses are grafted on wild roses, which form long, overhanging shoots. They reach a trunk height of 120 to 140 centimeters.

If you don't have your own garden, you can also plant smaller varieties in a large pot or tub. As with planted specimens, care is based on the grafted variety. With regular pruning measures in spring (March / April) you ensure that the crown shape is retained. A sheltered location is also a must for the graceful tree roses. A support rod and a special rose stand or umbrella can provide the rose with additional support in windy weather. In order to successfully overwinter your tree roses, you should protect them both in the bed and in the pot so that they are not damaged. It is best to make your rose winterproof with a crown pad and trunk protection made of jute sacks or bamboo mats. As you did with the Wintering of standard roses proceed correctly, we explain to you here.
