In order to keep cut gladioli as long as possible and to protect the plant in the garden, you should observe a few tips. The morning is always the best time to cut. For your vase, it is best to remove flower stalks where only the lower flowers are open. Over the course of a few days, the flowers above will open and you can enjoy the lush flowers for longer. It is also important never to remove all the flower stalks from a plant, otherwise the plant will die prematurely and will not have the energy to store in its bulb. Cutting too deep should also be avoided.

Prune gladioli properly

Once the bright flowers are cut, you should put them in water. Always remove the lower part of the leaves to avoid rotting in the jar. To keep the gladioli for a particularly long time, the stems should be trimmed every few days. With this method you extend the life of the gladiolus in the vase by a few days. You can do without cutting the gladiolus at an angle, in this case the lifespan is even shortened.

Proper care for gladioli in the vase

In order to keep the flowers in the water healthy and decorative for as long as possible, you should not leave them in direct sunlight. In the case of the gladiolus, which begins to bloom from below, faded flowers should always be removed. This way, the unopened buds at the top of the plant get more nutrients and water to open.

One of the most important things you can do to keep cut flowers like gladioli in your vase is to change the water regularly. Change the water at least every two days to prevent rot in the jar.
