"Potting soil? Surely there can't be any big differences?" And the cheap entry-level potting soil ends up in the shopping cart. After all, the high price of premium potting soil is completely overpriced and anyway, all potting soil contains the same thing, right? But when choosing cheap potting soil, you save at the wrong end. In fact, the differences between different potting soils are enormous and are ultimately reflected in the condition of the plants. And if these take care of you because of the wrong soil selection and have to be nurtured with a lot of time and additional remedies, you get angry. We will explain why it is worth buying high-quality potting soil.

Potting soil: If you buy cheap, you buy twice

This also applies to potting soil. The decisive factor that separates the wheat from the chaff when it comes to potting soil is the composition and quality of the additional ingredients. Cheap products like to save here: the fertilizer they contain is often not even sufficient for the first few days or has the wrong nutrient distribution - large pieces of wood or clods of earth even cause poor soil structure. More expensive soils, on the other hand, often rely on quality instead of quantity. The expensive depot fertilizers that may be included can supply the plants continuously for several months without any deficiency symptoms occurring.

In the case of substrates from the higher price segment, you can also rely on the information relating to the composition and nutrient content. This provides security and allows any additional fertilization that may be required to be planned more reliably. Furthermore, the soil structure of the substrate is improved by adding clay: Not only is the right consistency achieved, but also the buffering capacity of the soil is increased - fluctuations in the pH value caused by fertilizer and irrigation water can be better absorbed thanks to the clay content, so that acidification is less likely to occur can.

The right soil for the right plant

But not only quality and composition are an important point when choosing the right potting soil. Cheap products often present themselves as “one size fits all” potting soil that seems to offer a perfect solution for all plants. However, everyone should be aware that different plants have different demands on their soil. Our Plantura organic universal soil on the other hand, is a high-quality and peat-free organic soil that is particularly suitable for indoor and green plants.
