Origin and history of the apple

The apple variety 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' is known by many names: The apple tree is also called 'Swedish Red Chancellor', 'Jägerapfel', 'Haslinger' or 'Schönster vom Neckartal'. It is a very old apple variety and was probably cultivated as early as 1650. Until the first half of the 20th At the beginning of the 19th century, this variety was a popular winter apple and was mainly grown in the Rhineland. Today, new varieties have replaced this old apple variety, and the long-living trees are no longer used in commercial fruit growing. Rheinischer Winterrambur apple trees are vigorous and grow sprawling. They form a large and broad crown. The tree can grow up to five meters high. Harvest time and use of the 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' apple

A very special phenomenon goes hand in hand with the harvest and the yield of Rheinische Winterrambur apples: the apple variety delivers high yields, but only every two years. Thanks to the so-called alternating yield, a rich apple harvest can be expected every other year.

From mid-October you can harvest the fruits of the 'Rheinische Winterrambur'. If stored correctly, the fruits can be eaten until spring.
Due to its very sweet and not particularly noticeable taste, the variety is less suitable as a table apple. It is better to press apple juice from it or to use it for apple pie, baked apples or compote.
