The right location
Pineapples are a bromeliad family come from the tropics. They therefore need a lot of heat and light. These special requirements are met on a south-facing window, in the conservatory or in a heated greenhouse.

Prepare pineapple
With the regrowing method you can easily grow a new plant from a pineapple:
- Cut the leaves about five centimeters below the base.
- Carefully remove the inner, hard stalk from the soft flesh and the remains of the peel.
- The fibrous roots should not be damaged.
- Pull off the lower, dried leaves.
- Leave the prepared pineapple to dry in a warm place for a few days. This prevents later rotting.
- Fill a glass with tap water and place the pineapple in it.
- After about a week, the first roots form. Once these have reached a length of 5 millimeters, you can put the plant in the ground.
Planting the pineapple
Since pineapple plants are very sensitive to waterlogging, you should choose a sufficiently large pot with good water drainage.
- Cover the holes with pottery shards and put out a layer of drainage expanded clay(€19.00 at Amazon*) in.
- Fill the pot with soil, which you have in three parts potting soil, mix one part sand and one part coconut fiber yourself. Alternatively, special substrate is suitable for cacti and succulents.
- Make a well in the middle and place the pineapple in it.
- Fill with soil, press down lightly and water.
Care of the pineapple plant
In order for the small pineapple to develop into a strong plant, you should in the care note a few points:
- Always pour onto the substrate and never into the heart. Otherwise the bromeliads could start to rot.
- Keep the temperature constant between 20 and 25 degrees.
- Fertilize Fertilize the pineapple every 14 days during the summer months with a commercially available cactus fertilizer.
- Spray the plant regularly with low-lime water.
- Set out a bowl of water to increase humidity.
harvest fruits
Pineapple plants only flower once. They then form a cone-shaped inflorescence that develops into a leaf-topped pineapple. This remains much smaller in room culture, but tastes very aromatically sweet.
tips
Older pineapple plants form children that you can simply separate and use in the substrate. If the temperature and humidity are sufficiently high, new plants will reliably develop from these.
