- unique names for competition horses in the FN register
- creativity
- big variety
Selection criteria for a mare's name
When choosing a suitable horse name, you have to pay more attention to the tournaments than to other animals. Therefore, you should consider right from the start whether your mare will take part in competitions or not. If you just keep the mare to yourself, you can actually give him any horse name you like. The only thing to note is the following:
- The names of the foals begin with the same letter as the parent
- age-independent name
With competition horses, however, you should pay attention to a very individual name. That's because in the official
FN register of the German equestrian association each horse's name can only appear once. The name registered there will then be used in equestrian competitions. If your name is already taken, you must- accept a number after the horse's name in competitions
- keep searching until you find a unique name
Note: Some horse names, especially successful horses, are protected by law. Before officially setting your name on a competition horse, you should check that out. In the worst case, problems can otherwise arise.
If you are still not sure whether your mare should take part in a competition, it is best to choose a long horse name. You can then use this in a competition if necessary. You can then specify a short nickname for the rest of the time.

frequently asked Questions
Yes. Horses filter out important noises from their environment and recognize them thanks to their memory. Most horses not only listen to their name, but also to further commands such as “step”, “trot” or “stop”.
Theoretically yes. However, it may not be advisable once the horse is used to the other. In the case of competition horses, an official description in the FN list must also be requested, which is associated with costs.
