Winter is slowly coming to an end and the gardening season is beginning again, so it's time to sow vegetables and herbs.
Windowsill - Cultivation
The windowsill is always a good place to grow plants. Here the little plants can gather strength and energy until they finally go outdoors after the frost.
Sunny windowsill
The sunny window sill should be at least 20°C (room temperature) to provide the seeds with the required ambient temperature. The following are suitable for the sunny windowsill:
- aubergine
- basil
- chili
- lettuce
- coriander
- Leek
- paprika
- Parsely
- celery
- tomatoes
Cool room / windowsill
At temperatures of 12°C - 18°C, the following plants can also be successfully grown:
- cauliflower
- dill
- potatoes
- cabbage
- Kohlrabi
- arugula
- salads
- chives
- sorrel
- lemon balm
cold frame / greenhouse
In the greenhouse, in the cold frame or under a foil cover, temperatures can be slightly warmer than outdoors even early in the year. There are some plants that are not quite as sensitive and can be planted there as early as March.
Since late winter and spring there can always be frost, this is an ideal solution to bring the plants into the ground early.

There are some hardy plants that can be sown directly into the ground as early as March. These are often frost-resistant plants. If there is no frost reported for the following two weeks, there is no need to worry about these plants. If in doubt, a small cold frame can also be imitated with a covering film.
