Repot zucchini correctly: this is how it works

Zucchini is the perfect self-sufficient vegetable. It is easy to care for, grows quickly and can even be cultivated in a bucket on the balcony. We'll show you how to properly repot zucchini.

Multiple repotting

If you want to cultivate zucchini in a bucket, you have to repot the plants several times, for example:

• when the seeds have grown into small plants
• when the bucket is too small

Grow and transplant

From the end of March to mid-April you can Prefer zucchini plants. So you can later put more robust young plants outdoors. This is how you proceed when preferring:

• Fill pots with a diameter of about nine centimeters with potting soil
• Place a seed in each pot

2. Fill a suitable bucket with a drainage layer of gravel.
3. Provide with compost or horn shavings mixed potting soil on top.
4. Put the plant in and water it well.

In order to meet the requirements of the zucchini plant, the bucket should have the following properties:

• Diameter: 30 to 40 centimeters
• Height: 30 to 40 centimeters
• Capacity: about 40 liters
• Drainage hole to avoid waterlogging

A notice: The general rule is that zucchini grow better the larger the vessel is. Buckets that are filled with 40 liters of soil reach a high weight. Keep this in mind if you want to cultivate zucchini on the balcony. Vegetable plants also thrive in smaller containers. Then they need to be watered more often and fertilized become.

Renew substrate

are zucchini plants heavy feeder. Only if they have sufficient nutrients available can they continue to produce new fruit. Plants in smaller pots in particular benefit if you repot them once during the season and provide them with new substrate. Here's how to do it right:

3. Clean out the jar and fill it with a drainage layer of potsherds or gravel.
4. Put new substrate on top.
5. Insert the plant and fill in the substrate.
6. Water the plant well.

A notice: Note that the shoots of the zucchini plants can easily break off. Be careful when repotting.

Avoid repotting large plants

If zucchini plants feel comfortable in the tub, they will become very large and tendril over a large area. Do not repot and supply new substrate if you cannot safely remove the zucchini from the pot without damaging it. In this case, we recommend fertilizing the plant regularly and watering it well.
