In Japan, one of the home countries of camellias, the language of flowers (Hanakotoba) has a long tradition. Tsubaki, like the camellia called in Japan, is a symbol of divinity in its Asian homeland. In addition, the Japanese rose, which blooms when almost all other plants are in hibernation, stands for:
- new beginning
- Spring,
- Purity,
- Harmony.
Without saying it directly, the Japanese reveal their longing for a loved one with yellow camellias. The red flowering Higo camellia was a sign of the samurai warriors and stood for the noble death of the brave men.
The symbolism of the colors of the camellia flowers
Red camellias
In contrast to roses, which are supposedly odorless, the blossoms of the camellia are a symbol of love for sale, the demimonde and the red-light milieu in many films, plays and books. That is why these were the only flowers that could be given to the female protagonist in Duma's novel The Lady of the Camellias, the most sought-after courtesan in Paris.
At the same time, the beautiful, red camellia blossoms in Europe also stand for true love.
White camellias
The white camellia is considered a sign of luxury and elegance. If a man gives you a bouquet of white camellias, he wants to express that he doesn't see you as a half-hearted affair, but as the woman for life.
