How sensitive to cold is a dragon tree?
Dragon trees are extremely sensitive to cold and should avoid temperatures below 15 degrees, otherwise they can suffer damage from the cold. A dragon tree is not hardy and does not tolerate frost outdoors. Ideally, the temperature in the room should not fall below 16 degrees.
How cold can a dragon tree be?
Dragon trees react very sensitive to cold and often show at temperatures of below 15 degrees first cold damage. The leaves change color, hang limp and are shed.

At temperatures around freezing point, even if they last only for a short time, the cells of the plants are irreversibly destroyed. The tribe and the leaves turn brown and the dragon tree can no longer be saved.
Is a dragon tree hardy and can it stand outside in frost?
Since the Dragon tree so sensitive to frost reacts, these indoor plants can in our latitudes not remain outdoors permanently. They would die after just a few days when the temperature fell below ten degrees.
How do I protect the dragon tree in the room from too cold air?
Since dragon trees cultivated indoors cannot cope with cool drafts, you should consider the following points when caring for them:
- When airing, especially in winter, the dracaena must not get a cold draft.
- If you have to transport the plant in frosty weather, be sure to pack it well in newspaper or bubble wrap. Never leave the dragon tree in an unheated car for a long time.
- The temperature should be for the dragon tree ideally not fall below 16 degrees.

Like many indoor plants, the dragon tree takes a rest during the winter months. But even then, the dracaena should remain in its original place and the temperature in the room concerned should not fall below 18 degrees.
