Contrary to popular belief, fertilizer must be used in the summer months and not necessarily in the fall. In this way, the rich, summery green can be preserved. All plants need nutrients to grow and thrive. They usually get these out of the ground. However, the nutrient repertoire in the soil is eventually exhausted. Consequently, nutrients must be added. Basically, without the addition of a summer fertilizer, the lawn goes weakened into the rest period in autumn and winter. Subsequent fertilization cannot optimally compensate for this condition. When it comes to summer fertilization, two aspects are particularly important: using the right fertilizer and timing. In general, you can't go wrong with an organic fertilizer. It is explicitly also suitable for high heat. On the other hand, mineral fertilizers should be avoided in summer, as they can accelerate the burning of the lawn. In addition, it can easily lead to over-fertilization. There is also a risk that mineral fertilizers will damage the soil quality in the medium term.

The type of soil on which the lawn grows is also important. It depends to a large extent on how much fertilizer can or should be applied. should.

A few factors must come together, especially in summer, so that the application of fertilizer really takes effect and does not fizzle out ineffectively or even cause damage. It should have become clear that the right time depends in large part on the weather. Heat and drought are not good conditions for fertilizing a lawn. It is therefore advisable to pay particular attention to weather fluctuations in summer and, if necessary, to take action at short notice when it cools down. If this is not possible for whatever reason, the very early morning hours should definitely be used for fertilization. Since it is well known that it gets light outside very early during the summer months, this should not be a problem. The supposedly cool evening hours, on the other hand, are less suitable, since the ground is still very strongly heated by the sun at this time.

After fertilization

Immediately after application, the lawn fertilizer is naturally on the soil surface. There, however, the individual grasses can do very little with it. It must therefore get into the soil, where the roots of the plants can then absorb the nutrients. The fastest way to achieve this is to water thoroughly after each fertilization. In spring, one or two rain showers can help. Often there is also a certain amount of soil moisture, which dissolves the lawn fertilizer. With the addition of summer fertilizer, however, it usually looks different. Therefore, the lawn must be supplied with water immediately after fertilization. It is also advisable to treat the lawn as gently as possible in the days that follow.
