Desired assembly is not always possible

As diverse as the types of attachment are, as numerous are the different types of windows. And it is not uncommon for the selected mounting accessories to turn out to be a real mistake for the in-house window type. A certain amount of care is also required in rented apartments and on skylights. Because not everything is allowed everywhere and some desired assembly sometimes has to be avoided from the outset for physical or structural reasons.

Pleated blinds can also be glued to glazing beads

Nevertheless, it is precisely pleated blinds that are very popular compared to all other window decorations have solutions ready for difficult cases in order to successfully and solidly set up privacy and sun protection assemble.

Installation options at a glance

As with other window decorations, screw mounting is often the most common. There are also various non-drilling variants.

Wall, ceiling, reveal:

  • Classic screwing with drill holes in the masonry

Window sash mounting options:

  • Screw connection in the glazing bead
  • Adhesive plates in the glazing bead, on the frame or on the pane
  • Mounting with clamp holder

Special case rental apartments

Clamp holder for installing pleated blinds

A particularly important decision criterion is first of all the living situation. Anyone who owns an apartment or house basically has a free hand. Tenants, in turn, are liable for long-term damage to the rental property. Attaching a pleated blind to the masonry is harmless, since shelves or cupboards are also mounted here and the drill holes can be easily removed. In the case of planned drilled window installations, however, permission should be obtained from the renting party, otherwise expensive repair costs can be estimated. For rented properties, therefore, only clamp or adhesive mounting often remains - in addition to the wall screw connection.

Pleated blinds on aluminum windows and wooden windows

Some assemblies are intended for conventional plastic windows. Above all, this includes the drill-free attachment with clamp brackets and adhesive plates. For windows that differ in structure, such as thinner aluminum windows, clamp holders can be used quickly cause problems because the mounting brackets are always designed for wider window thicknesses are. In the case of wooden windows, clamp brackets often do not hold either, because they are next to a sufficient one for the installation Sash thickness also requires a rubber seal on the back of the window, which is the case with plastic windows is norm. If the rear seal is missing, the clamping bracket simply cannot hold.

Aluminum and wooden windows also prove to be problematic with some adhesive assemblies, especially when the adhesive plates are to be attached to the frame of the window sash. The adhesive usually does not stick to either aluminum or wood.

Note the sash thickness on the window

Practical system solutions to install pleats, here are either narrow adhesive strips that are glued to the side of the window pane or the commercially available ones Depending on the window installation, screwing is carried out in the masonry, on the ceiling, in the reveal or even on the window itself can be.

Installation close to the pane required for protective functions

Pleated blinds are often used in order to eliminate specific light-related problems beyond just window decoration – for example, if a room is affected by very high levels of light or if it changes regularly even at milder temperatures overheated. Typical functional pleated blinds are, for example, pleated blinds with 100% blackout function or mother-of-pearl and honeycomb pleated blinds with heat protection function.

There are certain restrictions for assembly. Soffit, ceiling or wall mounting prevents optimal use of the protective effect. So that a perfect protective function can be guaranteed, a pleated blind must be installed on the window sash in order to The distance between the pleated fabric and the glass pane should be kept as small as possible so that light and heat do not reach the side edges penetrate. The available mounting types are nevertheless quite varied in the selection: screw mounting on the window can be implemented as well as clamping and adhesive devices.

The equipment of window special shapes

A special feature of pleated blinds is that it is possible to precisely adapt them to windows with particular shapes. These include trapezoidal windows, round windows or, for example, triangular windows. This can be achieved above all with various rail systems, in which a pleated fabric can be bordered. There are free-hanging, braced or fixed pleated blind systems for the various shapes. The mounting options are also quite varied here, in order to find exactly the right mounting option for the respective window.

Skylights: Drill-free installations make sense?

Pleated on the skylight

Sloping skylights are also a special case when it comes to window fittings. Free-hanging curtains and drapes, for example, are completely impractical here, especially since they also significantly impede window operation - even if they are fixed firmly at the side. On the one hand, this means that a sun protection must be selected that can be mounted directly on the window so that it can be opened and closed without any problems. On the other hand, it must be taken into account that higher forces act on a slope than on a vertical window. As a result, all non-drilling types of installation can be ruled out. Conclusion: Only a pleated blind that is firmly screwed on guarantees stable installation on a skylight.
