  • Problematic combination
  • Correct kitchen planning

In general, the refrigerator should not be placed directly next to heat sources such as stoves and ovens. However, this aspect is often unavoidable in small kitchens. For this reason, a close installation can be implemented under certain conditions.

Problematic combination

There is an acute lack of space in many kitchens these days. For this reason, planning a new kitchen or renovating the old kitchen is extremely difficult. That's why in some cases I can't avoid having different electrical devices right next to each other. The question quickly arises as to whether the refrigerator can be installed right next to the stove and oven. However, the increased temperatures of the oven in particular affect the operation of the refrigerator in the long term, so that certain problems arise from this circumstance.

  • Heated oven heats the refrigerator
  • More cooling energy is required to compensate for heat
  • Exhaust air from the two devices can mix and accumulate
  • When the refrigerator is opened, warm air from the running oven is drawn in
  • The refrigerator compensates for this by turning it on more often and by increasing its output
  • Constant heat radiation thus minimizes the energy efficiency of the refrigerator
  • Negatively affects the life of the cooling devices

A notice:

Hotplates that are operated emit much less heat than the oven, and it is also emitted at the top. In contrast, the heated oven also gives off the heat to the sides.

Correct kitchen planning

In the meantime, modern electronic devices are both well insulated and insulated. As a result, mutual interference between refrigerators and stoves and ovens is now relatively minimal. Compared to older models, the risk of the refrigerator overheating has fallen significantly in practice. In earlier times, the penetration of warm air meant that the food in the refrigerator spoiled faster. That is no longer the case today. This is why the two appliances can be placed next to each other in new kitchens if the space available does not allow otherwise. However, this leads to an increased consumption of cooling energy.

Fridge - oven stove

In addition, the exhaust air from the two appliances must be taken into account when planning the kitchen.

  • A distance of 1 to 2 meters between the devices is ideal
  • In addition to the oven, the refrigerator consumes around EUR 10 more per year
  • Modern refrigerators are extremely powerful
  • Quickly equalize the penetration of warm air
  • Warm exhaust air must not accumulate
  • When setting up, make sure that the discharge is correct

Tip:

If the refrigerator is very old and only poorly insulated, it is worth buying a new model with lower power consumption if the device is to be placed next to an oven.
