Of the numerous insect species that can be found in this country in summer, we fear wasps the most. They invade our living spaces and are constantly buzzing around us and our delicious food. There is a risk of a painful wasp sting, although wasps are not aggressive animals on their own. They don't particularly like the smell of cloves and therefore cloves could be a welcome remedy against wasps.
Drive away wasps
When a wasp approaches, the mind often pauses for a moment. The urge to react immediately and hit the wasp is overwhelming. But we shouldn't do that. Where there is a wasp, there are many other specimens not far from it. A threatened or even dying wasp sends out signals that attract other wasps and also make them aggressive.
For the wasps, their olfactory organ plays an important role in their short summer life. They are attracted by their pleasant smells and put off by others, less pleasant ones. We humans don't always have to share their preferences in this regard. What smells wonderful to us can be repulsive to these insects, at least that's what their reactions suggest. This fact leads us to a useful home remedy that will help us in our fight against these insects.
Carnations against wasps
The smell of cloves is said to be one of the fragrances that the yellow-black insects do not like to smell. You can still smell the "unpleasant" scent from afar. These are the consequences:
- they take no harm in it
- they just change their direction of flight
- move away from the source of the odor
- consequently, this also determines their whereabouts
- no specimens can be found within a radius of several meters
The scent of cloves is therefore one of the best home remedies, as it helps us quickly and effectively in our fight against these stinging insects. But it is not enough to put a flower pot with cloves against wasps, their essential oil is much more effective.
Application of clove oil
The oil does not have to be placed somewhere around the clock as a wasp repellent. It is sufficient if you only use it when the insects become acutely annoying to you. You only need a few drops per application. Give it to one of the following carriers:
- a small bowl
- a piece of cloth
- or wooden board
You don't have to put the clove oil directly on the coffee table, even if the scent doesn't smell very obtrusive. Placed a little apart, it can also develop the intended effect.
Buy clove oil
You can order small bottles of oil on the Internet or directly in a drugstore or shop. a well-stocked supermarket. The price is low at a few euros per 10 ml, because the bottle is sufficient for many applications.
tip: When buying, make sure that you are buying a 100% natural oil. The synthetically produced variant is cheaper, but should not have the desired effect.
dried cloves against wasps
Dried cloves are not an integral part of all spice cabinets, but they can be found in some. Together with a lemon, this spice helps to create an effective remedy against wasps. For this some carnations are put into one lemon and then put the whole thing where these insects are undesirable. The combination of the two fragrances seems to create an even greater aversion in them.
tip: You can get a sachet with hundreds of dried cloves in almost every grocery store.
Do not use against nests!
Everyone can safely test for themselves whether individual insects react to the carnation method with a change in flight. However, caution is advised with wasp nests. Not only that there are several hundred animals in it and there is a risk of several hundred stings, you are also not allowed to get too close for legal reasons. Specifically, this means that the wasps may neither be killed nor relocated without authorization.
tip: If the wasp's nest represents a well-founded danger for you, hire one Pest Control Company with obtaining the necessary permits and safe relocation. If the nest is inaccessible, it may have to be be destroyed.
Prevent resettlement
While a populated nest is under legal protection, you can prevent settlement in advance. The wasps look for a dark place for their nest, which they not only find in nature, but often under the eaves of our houses. Even if the colony only stays alive until autumn and then the queen also leaves the nest, the few months can be torture or not for the residents of the house. become a source of constant fear.
- act before nesting
- approx. End of February to mid-March
- Spray the cavities of the roller shutter boxes with clove oil
