If you are new race sow, you should not enter it at first. Otherwise the stalks will be damaged. But what duration is appropriate and what does it depend on?
In a nutshell
- Sowing length after the lawn depends on the variety
- Regular mowing shortens the period of use
- heavy loads are to be avoided in the first year
- Temperature plays a crucial role
- Before mowing for the first time, the lawn should not be loaded
variety
If you want to sow lawn, you should first decide on a variety. Because there are considerable differences here.
- Shadow lawn
- Sports and play lawn
- Ornamental lawn
If the meadow is heavily used, for example because animals and children are playing on it, you should definitely choose grass or sports lawn. If, on the other hand, the lawn is right next to the house, a wall or shaded plants, suitable varieties or mixtures must be selected for dark areas. Do you only enter the green area to mow? Then an ornamental lawn is sufficient.
Sowing & germination
The time of sowing determines how quickly the seeds germinate. Play crucial roles:
- Precipitation
- Exposure to sunlight
- temperature
A germination period of 14 days can be expected in spring. In summer, however, there is a risk of burns. During autumn the temperatures are so low that germination takes a longer time.
Tip: Aim to sow in spring and prepare the soil in autumn. This allows you to significantly accelerate germination and step onto lawns faster.
mowing
You should only step on the lawn when it is necessary to mow for the first time. This is the case as soon as the stalks have reached a length of five centimeters. If the grass grows longer, proper compaction can hardly be achieved. In addition, the plants are severely weakened.
On the other hand, if they are too short, individual plants can be torn out. This mainly happens when the cutting tool is not chosen appropriately or is used incorrectly. Watch out for:
- low pressure
- high speed
- cleanliness
- sharp blades
This creates smooth cut edges that can dry off quickly.
Tip: Choose a dry day without blazing sun. The cuts will then close faster, reducing the risk of disease and pest infestation.
load
A slight load is possible after about 40 days from germination. Full exposure in the form of barbecues, running, playing and other activities should only take place after several months up to a year on freshly sown lawns.
Tip: Turf can be used faster. Sowing in stages can also help to at least partially use the garden.
frequently asked Questions
Because the plants need time to take root and become resilient. The better the ground is prepared and the lawn is cared for, the shorter this period.
A spreader is suitable. With this you can set how many seeds are applied per running meter and the distribution is more even. This can reduce the risk of overseeding. The spreader can be rented at the hardware store, for example, but it also proves itself when it comes to fertilizing and is therefore a sensible investment.
Whenever there are light or bald spots. Even with a spread of moss or weed you should plant lawn seeds again.
