The ginger root is a real all-rounder: whether to refine dishes or as a home remedy for a wide variety of complaints - the popular tuber has it all. But can ginger also drive away wasps, and if so, how? We clarify!

Hobby gardeners can also make use of the smell of ginger, because this is supposed to help drive wasps away. Because the insects don't seem to like the smell and accordingly avoid the “area” around it. In order to drive away the troublemakers with ginger roots, it is best to proceed as follows:
- Cut the ginger tuber freshly
- Place the ginger slices in a bowl
- Lay out the bowl on the terrace or balcony

Another control option would be to kill the wasps with a wasp trap. For example, a jam jar can be used for this, which you fill halfway with water. Then an attractant such as ginger syrup and a few drops of detergent are added. The insects are attracted and in some cases also "fought", but this method has two benefits Disadvantages: On the one hand, it is very likely that only older and weaker animals will fall on the trap fall into it. On the other hand, around 98 percent of all wasp species are under nature protection and must therefore not be killed. The insects can be annoying, but the troublemakers are extremely valuable for the ecosystem:

Alternative home remedies
First and foremost, smells attract the beneficial insects, whereby sweet foods are particularly tempting for them. Of course, you can take advantage of this for a cozy meal outdoors and set up a bowl of sweet fruits a little away from the table. Alternatively, there is the option of keeping the insects away with other smells. The smells of the following plants have proven to be particularly effective for this purpose:
- lavender
- peppermint
- Lemon balm
Note: Windfalls and rotting fruit also attract insects, which is why this should always be disposed of immediately.
