This is how leaf spot disease manifests itself
Leaf spot disease shows itself, how can it be otherwise, by forming unsightly, unevenly shaped spots. It covers more and more leaves with it. The spots get bigger and bigger and can melt together. They are brown to black in color. Broad-leaved yucca varieties are particularly often attacked.
If the leaf spot disease is not dealt with as quickly as possible, the palm may die completely at some point.
Favoring factors
The leaf spot disease usually affects a weakened yucca. In order for it to come to that, care mistakes must have been made beforehand. It may be that this is also unintentional or happened ignorantly. These are the possible causes of the weakening of the yucca:
- Waterlogging in the root area
- missing or insufficient drainage layer
- too high humidity
- cold location
- lack of ventilation
Ways to fight it
Immediately remove all infected leaves and dispose of them with household waste. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, as this disease is caused by fungal pathogens. Otherwise these can easily be transferred. Many Houseplants can namely suffer from leaf spot disease. For example the Rubber tree or the camellia.
If necessary, you can also look around in stores for pesticides. However, only use the remedy if it is the only chance for the yucca. It is also essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Unfortunately, no home remedy can help combat these fungal pathogens.
Tips
It is best to repot the yucca or replace the top layer of soil. Fungal pathogens can reach the substrate through fallen diseased leaves, which can survive there for a long time.
