Which location is suitable?
The brilliant flowers call for a sunny, warm and sheltered location. If the magnificent wind acts as a facade greening, a place under the protection of a roof overhang is advantageous. The exotic climbing artist proves to be undemanding compared to the nature of the ground. It thrives in any normal garden soil that is well-drained and not overly acidic.

What soil does the plant need?
The magnificent wind favors a fresh, moist, loamy, sandy soil, rich in nutrients and well-drained. Summer flowers are satisfied with a neutral soil acid value. With a slightly acidic pH value or a tendency in the alkaline direction, the exotic beauty arranges itself without any problems.
When is the flowering time?
With a lavish abundance of flowers from June to October, the magnificent wind lives up to its name. Every few days, cut out the withered flowers because there are already new buds underneath. Do you fall leaves eyethat shade the buds and flowers, these are also removed.
Cut morning glory properly
Under your loving care, a magnificent wind sometimes takes its floral task too literally and goes beyond the dimensions. Cut the magnificent winds into shape in the middle of the season without hesitation. The flowers and leaves are not damaged. We also recommend that you regularly brush out withered bell blossoms for a colorful re-bloom.
Pour morning glory
The sunnier the weather, the more extensively the magnificent winds evaporate moisture from their enormous volume of foliage. You should therefore water the plant regularly as soon as the soil has dried on the surface. On warm summer days this can be obligatory in the early morning and again in the evening hours. Too much of a good thing, however, leads to waterlogging and causes root rot. So pour the water slowly from the spout onto the root ball and stop as soon as no more moisture is absorbed.
Morning glory fertilize properly
Don't let your glory wind go hungry, because it needs plenty of energy for the rapid growth and the imposing flowers and leaves. Fertilize From May to the end of the flowering period, apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants every 8-10 days. Alternatively, you can work ripe compost superficially into the soil every 14 days and shower the ground with nettle manure in between.
Morning glories multiply
Leave some flowers on the morning glory in summer so that the spherical capsule fruits flourish. You collect these in autumn to dry the seeds inside and store them in a cool place until next spring. Please consider the toxicity of this work and wear protective gloves. From March onwards, sow the seeds as follows:
- Soak the seeds in water or chamomile tea overnight
- Fill a seed tray with peat sand and moisten it
- Scatter the still moist seeds and sift them thinly with substrate or sand
- Set up in a heated indoor greenhouse at 20-25 degrees Celsius
In a partially shaded location, the seeds germinate within 10-21 days. Then prick out the strongest seedlings in 9 cm pots if they have at least 2 pairs of leaves. Maintain the young plants at 18-20 degrees on the light windowsill until mid-May. In mid / late April, a little diluted liquid fertilizer gets the seedlings going every 8 days.
Morning glory in the pot
In a pot with an integrated climbing aid or the Flower box(€ 149.00 at Amazon *) With the built-in trellis, the magnificent wind bathes the balcony in a summer sea of flowers. Choose a good one as the substrate Potting soil based on compost, made with sand, Lava granules or perlite is enriched. A water-bearing layer of potsherds on the bottom of the pot prevents waterlogging. Plant an Ipomoea in a slightly inclined position as a climbing aid and water it abundantly. Maintain a constant supply of water supplemented with weekly doses of liquid fertilizer. Clean the withered flowers every 1-2 days and otherwise enjoy the furious flower festival.
Is Morning Glory Poisonous?
The spherical fruits of a morning glory are bulging with poisonous seeds. Consumption of small amounts can already lead to considerable symptoms of intoxication, especially if the seeds end up in the small baby's stomach. So that children and pets are not tempted to nibble on it, we recommend using alternative climbing plants in the family garden.
