The white willow is a deciduous tree that loses leaves relatively late. Some of the leaves stay on the branches until late summer. However, this is by far not the most noticeable feature that you should use as a guide to identify the tree. You can recognize the white willow much more by its beautifully shiny foliage, to which it owes its name. The small gray hairs appear due to the dense growth of the crown like a silver fluff that extends over the leaves. You can observe this phenomenon very well, especially when there is wind. The persistence appears more intensely on the underside of the leaf. In addition, the hairs are erect here. If the wind now lifts the leaves, the silvery shimmer comes into its own.
