What to do if the trunk is soft (Palm lily)

Yellow leaves, soft trunk: waterlogging is the cause

Waterlogging is initially made through a Yellowing of the leaves noticeable. These become lighter, droop and eventually dry up. Only in the advanced stage does the trunk become soft; in this case the affected yucca cannot be saved as a whole. You can only try to cut off remaining healthy parts of the plant and as Cuttings in one with Potting soil and a sand-filled planter to root. Do not put the cuttings in a water glass for this purpose - it will only encourage the rot to progress further.

Fungal pathogens cause wilt

Muddy, brown roots and a soft trunk with brown, possibly even putrid spots are clear indicators of advanced rot due to waterlogging. However, it is not the wetness itself that causes the symptoms, it is fungal pathogens. These mushrooms - there are different types - feel particularly comfortable in the moist, warm environment and multiply rapidly. Starting from the roots, the pathogens penetrate the above-ground parts through the conduction pathways of the plant and cause rot there. The yellow ones that appear first

withering leaves are, however, a sign that the putrid roots can no longer do their job and the above-ground shoots and leaves are drying up.

How to prevent stem rot

To prevent waterlogging and thus root and stem rot, you can do the following:

• to water The yucca palm just a little! The substrate must be dry before you water.
• In hot months and in bright locations, the plant needs more water.
• Less watering is used in darker locations and in winter.
• Thorough drainage in the pot is extremely important.
• Do not leave excess water in the planter or stand in the coaster.
• Make sure that the location conditions are good - as bright as possible.
