Do wild roses need fertilizer?

Wild roses get along just fine with poor soil. However, to encourage abundant flowering, these plants should be regularly grown in the garden fertilize. But not too much of a good thing! Too much nitrogen stimulates the formation of shoots, but inhibits flowering!

It is sufficient to provide your wild rose with rotted compost once a year - preferably in the spring when it sprouts - or water it with nettle manure every few weeks during the gardening season.

Can wild roses tolerate drought or should they be watered?

These plants are highly adaptable. They tolerate both damp and dry soils. So if it comes to drought in summer, you don't necessarily have to water it. However, so that the flowers last a long time and the rose hips become plump, it is not a mistake to water the wild rose that has been planted in heat and drought.

Here are a few more tips on casting:

  • Calcareous tap water can be used for watering
  • Pay attention to good drainage in the soil (waterlogging is not tolerated)

How to properly prune wild roses

Keep this in mind when cutting:

  • Strong pruning recommended every 2 years
  • remove old and dead wood
  • Time: February / March or in summer after flowering
  • It is not necessary to shorten the shoots
  • blooms on wood from the previous year: too strong a cut in spring removes the flower buds
  • at Hedges: cut every year

Are wild roses prone to disease?

If the wild roses have been planted correctly, they are usually less susceptible to diseases. It can rarely lead to an infestation mildew come. Normally, however, the plants regenerate on their own. Tips

You should be careful when handling wild roses directly. They have many thorns that can not only injure yourself but also ruin your clothes.
