Is the elephant foot poisonous?

The elephant's foot contains saponins. This protects the plant against bacteria and fungi. These substances are not well tolerated by humans and animals. However, an adult would have to eat quite large amounts to get a problem. In contrast, small amounts are sufficient for small children.

What are the symptoms of poisoning?

The most common symptoms of elephant foot poisoning are probably malaise and nausea. Fatigue and dizziness are also possible. The greater the amount consumed, the more likely it is to vomit, cramps and impaired vision. An elephant's foot should therefore stand in such a way that children cannot reach it and are not even tempted to put the leaves in their mouths.
