Sooty mildew
This is indicated by a black or brown spots on the leaves. Since it forms primarily on the droppings of lice, you should carefully examine the fronds.

- Isolate the palm so that the pests do not attack other plants.

Root rot
This is favored by incorrect pouring behavior. If the water cannot drain off properly after watering, for example because the water outlet is blocked, or if excess liquid remains in the saucer, the root ball becomes wet. The now prevailing lack of oxygen and fungi, which are spreading as a result of the poor microclimate, destroy the roots. The palm dries up even though it has been adequately watered.

There are no pesticides against root rot. However, you can try to move the crop and save it.
- Carefully pot the palm. You will probably notice a musty, musty smell from the harmful fungi and rot.
- Carefully remove the wet substrate.
- Damaged roots are no longer crisp, but feel soft and mushy.
- Cut these off with sharp, clean scissors.
Unless the entire root ball has died, the palm can definitely recover. Put the plant in a pot with fresh substrate. This should have a sufficiently large water outlet so that the plant will no longer get wet feet in the future.
Only water when the top centimeters of the soil feel dry (thumb test). Pour away excess moisture in the coaster after a few minutes.
Tips
