The best time to transplant

You can use pre-grown or purchased plants in pots practically at any time plants. The planting hole should be slightly larger than the root ball. You may be able to put some well-rotted compost in the hole to make it easier for the poppy to grow. But don't use too much compost, as poppy seeds don't need nutrient-rich soil.

Poppies growing outdoors are best transplanted outside of the flowering period, i.e. between autumn and the beginning of spring. The new location should be sunny and dry, otherwise you will wait for flowering in vain, because most of them Poppy species only bloom in full sun.

How to transplant your poppy

Would you like poppies from your own garden transplant, then think of the long tap roots. Dig these out as much as you can. The new planting hole should be as deep as the roots are long. If remnants of the roots remain in the ground, they may sprout again. If that doesn't bother you, don't make a problem out of it and look forward to the young plants.

A vigorously grown poppy will not die if the roots are trimmed a little. You can even share these plants by going with the spade Separate part of it and plant it again in another place.

  • Divide strong plants if necessary
