How do I cut offshoots?

For the Cut As for any other cutting work on plants, you should always use clean and sharp tools for cuttings. This prevents the shoots from being crushed and the transmission of diseases.

Take a good look at your room linden tree. Offshoots from green shoots are unlikely to produce flowering plants. Therefore, you should always cut your cuttings from flower stems that have already bloomed. A length of about 15 cm is sufficient.

How do I maintain offshoots?

If the offshoots have many large leaves, a lot of water evaporates. In this case, it makes sense to trim the lower (largest) leaves. You can cut off about a third of the leaf area. This way, your cuttings need less water.

For rooting, place the freshly cut shoots in a glass with water. You change this regularly. Growing directly in the substrate is also possible. Make sure that the substrate is not wet but evenly moist. Once your cuttings begin to grow, they no longer require any special care. With a little luck, they will even bloom in their first year.

What can I do if my offshoots don't grow?

Make sure to place the glass or pot with your cuttings in a light place. With too little light linden trees lose their leaves. However, they also do not tolerate direct sunlight. That could lead to sunburn too brown leaves or leaf spots to lead.

The essentials in brief:

  • always use clean and sharp tools
  • it is best to cut dead shoots as offshoots
  • Offshoots from green shoots are unlikely to bloom
  • Cut about 15 cm long
  • root in water or substrate
  • Maintain young plants like old plants

Tips

If your self-grown room linden tree is to flower later, then cut your offshoots from withered shoots, they have a greater chance of blooming than those from green shoots.
