Tie up coral moss in the aquarium

Coral moss is a popular planting in the aquarium because it is very easy to care for and does not grow too quickly. It can be used to create very nice hiding spots for the aquarium inhabitants.

However, if the coral moss gets out of hand, you have to divide it up before it overgrows the entire aquarium. Then you should tie it up so that the plant stays where you want it to be. The moss swims around everywhere in the pool, clouding the water and, under unfavorable circumstances, getting caught in the filter.

Before you can untie the coral moss, split it up. Scissors and knives are suitable for this. But you can also easily pull it apart. The individual pieces should not be too small so that they can be tied up better.

What can coral moss be attached to?

Materials that are present as ornaments in the aquarium are very suitable for tying up:

  • Woods

  • Ornaments

Use cords that will not rot in the water to tie them up. Experienced aquarists rely on fishing line or plastic threads. There are also experts who stick the coral moss in clusters on stones and woods.

Caring for coral moss properly

Coral moss hardly needs any maintenance in the aquarium. It needs like everyone Moss species enough light for it to grow well.

Fertilization is usually not necessary. Occasional CO2 doses ensure that the coral moss retains its strong green color and grows more compactly.

If a thick carpet of coral moss is desired, place coral moss on the floor and cover it with a stainless steel mesh. This will keep the moss down. It can grow out of the holes and over time will form a dense green area.

Tips

The coral moss owes its name to the delicate shoots that look very similar to those of corals. The shoots are no longer than three centimeters. It comes from Asia and was found there by a waterfall before it began its triumphal march into the world.
