The right time

Necessary work steps

Moving a hedge takes place in the following steps:

Prepare the new location

Dig the trench for the hedge beforehand. Enrichment with compost should also be done in advance. If you choose spring for transplanting your hedge, we also recommend adding fertilizer.

The cut back

A thorough topiary before digging is therefore important because a large part of the roots remain in the ground when moving. So that the plants are not undersupplied, their size should be adjusted.

The excavation

Now separate with a spade remove the roots so that you can remove the root ball from the soil.

Shorten the roots

Round off the root ball by cutting back the roots to form a compact structure. Make sure you get as many small fiber roots as possible.

The transport

Transport within the garden is best done in one wheelbarrow. For longer journeys, it is advisable to protect the roots with a linen sack.

Planting

If necessary, remove the linseed protection and place your bushes in the trench that has already been prepared at a species-appropriate distance and the appropriate depth.

Care after moving
