Pollinate flowers and harvest seeds - this is how it works

Cultivation begins with 2 blooming cacti. Once the pollen has taken on a powdery consistency, it is ripe. Now take a hair brush to hand to transfer the pollen from the first cactus to the stigma of the second cactus. When the flowers have wilted, they turn into fruits with seeds. After several months of ripening, you can harvest the seeds.

Instructions for cultivation

First fill the seeds into an empty tea bag and soak them in lukewarm water for about 45 minutes. In the meantime, fill in loose Sowing soil or coconut fiber substrate in a seed tray with a transparent lid. Alternatively, you can use small growing pots. Even with a size of 4 × 4 cm, they are large enough for 10 to 30 cacti. Spray the substrate with lime-free water. So it goes on:

  • The soaked seeds sowing
  • Thin with lime-free Quartz sand(€ 14.90 at Amazon *) or sieve vermiculite and press on
  • Close the bowl with the lid and place it in the partially shaded window seat
  • Keep slightly moist at ideal temperatures of 16 to 28 degrees Celsius

Although germination can take place within 14 to 21 days, further cultivation takes up to 14 months. This is usually how long it takes for cactus seedlings to be 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter. This is the earliest time to get the seedlings prick out. The longer the spiked dwarfs can develop undisturbed in the seed pot, the better they survive the repotting procedure.
