Origin in East Africa - frost is a foreign word

It is tropical and warm in his homeland. That Noblemen, which belongs to the genus of spring herbs, originally comes from East Africa. There it grows preferably in damp locations, between rocks and in mountain forests. In its homeland it is cultivated for several years. In this country, the Edellieschen is considered annual if it is planted outdoors. The reason: it does not tolerate frost.

Temperatures below 10 ° C can become critical

But not only frost harms the noble lies. Even temperatures below 10 ° C, as they often prevail in spring and early autumn, for example, can make this squeamish plant fearful. If it is permanently cooler than 10 ° C, the Edellieschen should - if possible - be put in. This is usually the case from mid / late October.

Put in in September or say goodbye to the plant

The choice is yours: If you want to keep your noble lies for several years, it is best to put it in in September. If not, you can say goodbye to this crop and compost it in October.

If you want, you can re-plant the plant next year plants or sow. You can harvest and dry your own seeds in August and bring them home in spring from March.

Wintering at home - how does it work?

That Overwinter Home is easy. The Edellieschen should be overwintered at a temperature between 15 and 20 ° C. The location in winter time should be bright. But direct sunlight shouldn't get there.

Care during the winter time

Winter time does not mean closed season for you. Even in winter, the noble lesser needs something care:

  • regularly check for pests (e.g. B. Spider mites)
  • check regularly for foci such as fungi
  • every 4 weeks discreetly fertilize (Use liquid fertilizer)
  • water a little, but enough
  • remove old leaves and flowers

Tips

After overwintering, the Edellieschen can be repotted in spring and planted out from May, when no more frost is expected.
