The appearance of Autumn anemones is not uniform. There are cultivars with simple flowers made up of five petals. Half-double and fully double flowers are also possible.

The shape and size of the flowers also vary depending on the variety. The petals can taper to a point, be rounded or have a ray shape.
The three main forms of culture
The gardener distinguishes between the three main forms of culture:
- anemone hupehensis
- Anemone tomentosa
- Anemone japonica
Anemone hupehensis is also called Japanese Autumn anemone while the anemone tomentosa is a felt-leaved autumn anemone. Anemone japonica is a special cultivated form of the Anemone hupehensis that has produced its own cultivars.

Take into account the size and location of the garden
When choosing the right autumn anemone variety for your garden, consider the size and the location consider. Very tall varieties tend to spread a lot. They are therefore not well suited for small gardens.
For small gardens or those Planting in the pot choose low varieties that do not form runners. Even in gardens that are very exposed to the wind, you will enjoy lower varieties of autumn anemones more.
In the first year after planting, all autumn anemone varieties need winter protection. It takes two years for the perennials to settle in properly and really hardy are. But then they are almost indestructible.
