Sow vegetables directly in the field

The right seeds

The rule here is: the better the quality, the more seeds will sprout and grow into strong plants. A good choice are organic seeds-proof varieties, as these were grown under natural conditions. This makes the plants more robust and later requires less fertilizer and pesticides.

Pay attention to the time of the printed on the seed bag sowing. If this does not match the currently prevailing temperatures, lettuce, for example, tends to shoot or herbs do not rise at all.

Proper soil preparation

  • A constant floor temperature is important. This should be around ten degrees.
  • Thoroughly chop the earth.
  • Smooth the floor with the Rake.

If the earth is still too cold, you'd better wait a few days. For example, carrots and radishes germinate at five degrees, but the first leaflets are only hesitant to appear. If you sow later, the plants develop faster and catch up with the earlier sown seeds in the shortest possible time.

Sowing methods

How it is sown depends on the type of vegetable.

Broad sowing

Cut and pick salads are sown broadly. Before doing this, all weeds must be thoroughly removed, as this is hardly possible later. Then distribute the seeds evenly over the area and sprinkle a little fine crumbly substrate over it. Press gently.

As soon as the leaves are about seven centimeters long, the first cut is made. If you later leave a plant every eight inches, it will develop to its full size and you will get delicious lettuce, for example.

Horstsaat

This is recommended for courgettes, among other things. Place three to four seeds in a well and cover it with some soil. Keep the planting distance indicated on the seed bag. After germination, only leave the most vigorous plant.

Row seeds

This is very often practiced, for example with carrots, radishes or radishes. The distance between the individual seeds and rows of seeds depends on the space required by the vegetables and is noted on the packaging of the seeds. Do not sow too densely so that strong plants can develop from the tiny cotyledons.

Tips

A planting cord helps when sowing in rows. With this you can not only keep the distances exactly and the rows of plants will be nice and straight. If you have little space available, you should sow in a staggered manner.
