Test run at the highest level prevents lawn damage - this is how it works
Scarifying is a tightrope walk between the perfect care effect and the destruction of the Sward. So that the knife roller only combs out moss and weeds, it must not be too low. If you set the setting too high, the thatch will stay in place. The following procedure has proven to be successful so that noble grasses of the lawn are not affected:
- First the green area at the lowest level mowing
- The Scarifier(€ 98.00 at Amazon *) set to a working height of 2 mm
- Scarify a section of the lawn with this cutting depth
- Turn off the scarifier, sweep the clippings and check the result

If the scarifying roller has only little or no lawn thatch, regulate the working depth to 3 to 4 mm. The maximum depth of 5 mm is only recommended if you are struggling with a completely moss-covered lawn. Work the matted lawn lengthways and crossways to achieve the best possible result.
The scarifier does not get into the corners - what to do?
Motorized scarifying devices give gardeners a headache because they do not completely comb out the lawn thatch in corners and along the edges. In this case, a manual scarifier should be on hand. By hand moss and weeds can be easily removed from hidden niches that are inaccessible to electric and petrol scarifiers.
How deep you scarify the lawn manually is up to you. The higher the pressure exerted on the Hand scarifierthe more moss and weeds get stuck in the knives.
Tips
All efforts to achieve the perfect working depth are wasted if you have your lawn immediately after one rain shower scarify. The rotating knife roller transforms the softened soil into a mud desert, in which even the robust roots of lawn grasses lose their grip. At least 2 dry days should precede each scarifying.
