Appearance of the flowers

At first glance, the flowers of this plant look like a cluster of small stars. Hoya kerrii is also called heart plant, heart leaf plant, little darling and, in the past, often wax flower. Wax also seems to be the stuff the flowers are made of. Of course that's not really the case.

  • are white with a reddish center
  • the five petals each have a length of approx. 2.5 mm
  • their surface is hairy downy
  • it feels velvety
  • up to 25 flowers are grouped
  • on umbels, each 4-5 cm in diameter

Fragrance and nectar

The flowers smell, but only weakly, sometimes not at all. But they produce a lot of nectar. This is colored red-brown.

Although so much delicious nectar is produced, the flowers of this climbing plant are rarely fertilized in this country. As a result, there are no germinable seeds to harvest. Who the Hoya kerrii at home multiply has to resort to cuttings.

Clean up what has faded

Flowers that are past their prime should be separated from the plant. Pluck them off in a timely manner. This not only removes withered leaves as optical disruptive factors. You are triggering a new wave of blossoms.

Stimulating stand

So that she willingly shows the flowers, Hoya kerrii has to be pampered even when abroad. If it gets sun in the morning and in the evening, it shows itself to be blooming. Constant twilight, on the other hand, can cause the bloom to fail completely.

Reluctance to cut back

The heart plant tolerates cuts that are occasionally necessary. As you remove the shoots, however, be aware that you are minimizing the flower pile. Since the hoya kerrii grows slowly, it takes a long time to make up for the loss.
