The difference between varnish and glaze
Glazes(€ 67.10 at Amazon *) form a transparent film, while varnishes cover the wood with a closed layer of paint. For this reason, glazes contain significantly fewer dyes than varnishes, where the grain no longer shines through.

Paint the wood properly
To ensure that the paint adheres for a long time and the wood is reliably protected, three work steps are necessary:
- Wood thoroughly grind and prime.
- Sand again and paint a second time.
- Again sand and varnish.
The tool you need
- High-quality brushes and paint rollers ensure an even application.
- Stirring stick to mix the paint.
- Paint tray to wet rolls with paint and wipe them off.
The primer
First sand the wood, vacuum or brush the surface and only then apply the primer. This contains active ingredients that reliably protect the wood from mold and fungal attack. With strongly resinous woods, which are not recommended for the construction of a garden house, you should definitely use a covering primer.
Painting wood
You will achieve the best result here if you apply several layers of paint. Swipe first all the edges with a brush. Large areas are then painted with the roller in the direction of the grain.
Two-tone paintwork
At the moment, houses in Swedish red or Frisian blue with contrasting white window frames and doors are extremely popular. So that this paintwork succeeds without ugly tears of paint, first prime the whole thing Garden shed.(€ 60.76 at Amazon *)
- Then paint the lighter color with a primer, intermediate and top coat.
- Let dry completely and very well.
- Mask the surface carefully with painter's tape or special paint tape.
- Paint the masked area in the basic color. As a result, the smallest gaps are sealed and the paint does not run out.
- This is followed by two coats of paint in the contrasting color.
Tips
You should definitely do this on a windless day so that dust or earth that is blown up does not settle on the damp paintwork.
