Is the pepper perennial or annual?
In many gardening guides, only five types of paprika vegetables are described as perennial. However, numerous breeders have long known from their own experience that it is possible to cultivate almost all varieties in the following year. So do not necessarily rely on the information on the seed packaging or the nursery. Just try it out for yourself.

Note: In the case of varieties with very rapid growth, the effort of overwintering is usually not worthwhile. Here it is better to dispose of the old plant on the compost and a new one in January sowing to undertake. However, you can use the seeds of the old plant for this.
Hibernate perennial peppers
Since hot peppers are sensitive to frost, you have to bring them indoors during the cold season. Here you will find tips on the circumstances:
- bright, sunny location (preferably a window sill)
- moderate watering, but always moist substrate
- mild temperatures (optimal are 10 ° C ascending)
- Check for pest infestation
- Do not put them outside again until mid-May (after the ground frost has subsided)
Even more crop yield through correct pruning
When pruning after the first harvest, it is even possible to produce a second crop. If you were able to pick fruit in summer, it is worthwhile to shorten the shoots to 3 cm. In October, with a little luck, you will be rewarded with fiery pods again. This not only makes your peppers perennial, but also more productive.
