Functionality and preparatory work
The universal knife sharpener from Westfalia is designed in such a way that it can handle the blades of Secateurs(€ 12.96 at Amazon *) Shares just as reliably as the knife on the lawnmower or the edge of the spade. The grinder fits all drills and cordless screwdrivers. When properly clamped, the sharpener works automatically at the correct angle. It is advantageous to evaluate that neither the blades of a pair of scissors nor the lawnmower knives have to be removed. How to properly prepare the knife sharpener:
- Check the grinding wheel for a tight fit of the screw and lock washer
- If the fit is too loose, press the lock washer firmly onto the plastic ring
- Pull out the mains plug on electric mowers, pull off the spark plug connector on petrol mowers
- Clean the knife and fix it with the lawnmower knife blocker
- Put on protective goggles

Take your drilling machine(€ 90.99 at Amazon *) or the cordless screwdriver at hand and clamp the knife sharpener. In the first pass you remove nicks, nicks and burrs with the flattened edge of the whetstone. Then use the conical part on the whetstone to sharpen the knife.
It is important to note for the professional grinding process that you move the grindstone from the inside out on the knife edge. At the end of the knife, lift off the grindstone briefly. If the knife edges are only slightly beveled, tilt the stone backwards.
The greatest danger when sharpening lawnmower blades is the formation of an imbalance. You can prevent this shortcoming by being careful to remove an equal amount of material from both sides.
Tips
Is there no drill available to drive the Westfalia sharpener? Then simply use a combination whetstone. European water sharpening stones with one fine-grained and one coarse-grained side are perfect for your Secateurs to sand perfectly.
